What is dietary gas?

Digestive gas comprises of nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, methane and carbon dioxide and is the natural product of the digestive system. With the passage of time this gas moves out of the body in order to prevent complications as when present in the body can pressurize other organs of the body and affect their working. Every individual has a unique functioning of his or her gastrointestinal tract and thus presence of gas in the stomach can occur due to multiple reasons. One such reason is the breakdown of the food products by bacteria in the colon of the body when the food absorption in the small intestine does not take place properly.

Other factors responsible for dietary gas

Besides the breakdown of food products by bacteria in the colon, other factors may also be responsible for the production of gas such as

Dehydration
Water is an essential component that helps the food in our gut to move down so that its assimilation can take place over there. Also, this can help the food move out of our bodies but if water uptake is not sufficient than food may remain in our digestive tract for very long time producing gas.

Change in diet
The food products that the body consumes regularly become easily digestible and body gets used to it but if some change occurs in the food consumption the body needs to adjust accordingly and this requires time such as the consumption of fiber rich diet can cause blotting and gas.

Consuming unusual food combinations
Consuming proteins in combination with carbohydrates can slow down the rate of digestion in the body and thus food will stay for a longer time in the stomach and produce gas and blotting. The decomposition of food takes place in the stomach. Beans and pas have hard outer covering that can cause blotting and if we leave them over night in water this can remove the hard covering and prevent blotting.

Stress

Stress causes hormonal imbalance in the body and thus alleviated levels of anxiety, stress and tension can lead to gas production and bloating.

Allergies

Some people are intolerant to certain ingredients and thus their bodies are unable to digest and absorb such ingredients. For example some people are unable to digest lactose and some are sensitive to gluten and when consumption of these products occurs the people develop allergies.

Swallowing of air
Chewing gums, gulping and eating very fast can bring in extra air in the bodies which ends up causing blotting and gas production.

Food products
Along withal these physiological factors, certain food products cause blotting. Fiber is a compound that is present in many food products and does not get absorbed in the body. It just softens the fecal matter so that it can move out of the body easily. Consuming such fiber rich diet can stay in the stomach for very long producing gas and unsatisfying conditions.
